THE WORLD IS OUT THERE. OUR STUDENTS ARE TOO.

At the College of Charleston, studying abroad is about more than visiting another country. It is about discovering new perspectives, building confidence and gaining experiences that shape students’ futures.

For students like Breanna Williams ’28, that opportunity became possible through careful planning, faculty mentorship and scholarship support. As a first-generation college student, Williams worked with mentors to identify funding opportunities that allowed her to study in Berlin, Germany, for a full summer: a month-long immersive language class, followed by a two-month internship and evening German classes.

Her experience provided firsthand insight into educational systems and cultures beyond her own, while she prepares for a future career as an elementary school teacher.

This life-changing, career-shaping experience would have been impossible without scholarships such as the Elizabeth Anne Eady Memorial Scholarship, the David J. Cohen Endowed/Annual Scholarship for Study Abroad, the College of Charleston

Foundation Scholarship, the German Studies Award, the Center for International Education Abroad Scholarship, the Andrew Sobiesuo Scholarship and the nationally competitive Gilman Scholarship.

Studying abroad helps students develop resilience, adaptability and leadership by taking them out of their comfort zone and allowing them to experience new cultures first-hand, expanding their horizons with a global perspective on whatever career path they happen to choose.
